Need to return your loans and in a hurry? You can also return them using the Self-service return machine.
- You do not need to have your library card with you to use the return machine.
- After returning your loans using the machine, they will be immediately removed from your user's account.
- If you have exceeded the loan period for the returned items, late fees can be paid at the Main Hall or at the Slavonic Library. A link for online payment will be available in your user's account on the next business day after returning the items via the Self-service return machine.
The following items can be returned via the Self-service return machine:
- books borrowed from the Main Hall
- books borrowed from the Slavonic Library
- books borrowed from the Library of Library and Information Science Literature Library
The following items cannot be returned via the return machine:
- CDs, DVDs, and cassette tapes borrowed from the library
- books borrowed through interlibrary services

Returns that the return machine refuses to accept should be returned to the counter in the Main Hall, the Slavonic Library, or the Library and Information Science Literature Library.
Returning books that have been physically damaged during the loan period
- After returning the books, the user's obligations under the loan agreement continue to apply, in particular the obligation to pay the relevant fees according to the Price List and the obligation to pay for any damage caused (Library Rules - Annex No. 7, Point 6).
The return machine is accessible
- without restriction during the opening hours of the National Library of the Czech Republic
- through security at the following times
- Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 7:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
- When the return machine is not accessible or out of order, it is still possible to return loans via the Return box (Bibliobox).
How does access to the return machine via security work?
- Ring the bell at the service entrance (the service entrance is located in the passage between the "iron tree" and the Student Courtyard, on the right-hand side).
- Security will open the door and accompany you to the return machine.
- Users may only enter individually.
