Internet access on the computers of the NLCR for registered users and visitors with a one-day pass.

Internet access on library computers

The NLCR offers registered users access to the Internet on selected computers in the reading rooms upon presentation of a valid library card.

Selected resources of the NLCR (e.g. National Digital Library) can also be used by visitors with a one-day pass.

Computers with internet access are intended primarily for searching the NLCR catalogues or for using licensed databases, digital libraries, and other electronic information resources.

Each of the reading rooms has set rules for computer use and internet access. Computers in the Reference Centre can be reserved through a reader account.

The staff of the NLCR does not provide instruction on the use of the free Internet (e.g. making financial transactions, placing advertisements), using graphic programs (such as photo editing and video editing), etc.  The use of banking and other applications with access to the user's financial and other accounts is at the user's own risk, and the NCLR is not responsible for any leakage or misuse of data from applications with access to the user's personal details and data.

Wi-Fi Connection

The following Wi-Fi networks are available. Wi-Fi networks vary from room to room.

NK-HOSTE

  • to access the NK-HOSTE network, you must first register once (user manual)
  • Registration for use of the NK-HOSTE network serves to verify identity and ensure access to the service; it is not linked to registration with the NK CR
  • the data required for registration for access to the NK-HOSTE network are specified in the Terms and Conditions for the use of the NK-HOSTE Wi-Fi network (point 3)
  • after registration to the NK-HOSTE network, the connection is valid for 30 days
  • the rules for using the NK-HOSTE Wi-Fi network can be found in the Terms and Conditions for the use of the NK-HOSTE Wi-Fi network (point 5)
  • the user is responsible for the security of his/her device while using the service

STUDOVNA

  • open network with limitations on speed, range of services and size of downloaded files
  • the connection in the wireless network is not cryptographically secure, i.e. traffic can be eavesdropped; sensitive information must be secured at the application level (e.g. https protocol)
  • the network does not require a password to connect
  • some network services (ssh) are not accessible
  • this network is gradually being replaced by the NK-HOSTE network

eduroam

  • wireless networks operated by research and educational institutions providing connectivity to users across Europe and some other continents
  • instructions on how to set up a computer for connection to the eduroam network can be found on the website of the institution (e.g. university, institute of the CAS) whose login details you want to use to log into the eduroam network

The Wi-Fi network offers access to the open Internet, the NLCR's information pages, online catalogues and other NLCR databases, the scanned catalogue, and other freely available resources, which do not require users to log in.

To use licensed resources and Out of Commerce works in the National Digital Library and other digital libraries, you must first log in to remote access.

The NLCR does not provide users with a device to access the Internet via Wi-Fi. The NLCR also does not provide technical support to those users who use Wi-Fi on their own equipment.
