A general selected bibliography of articles published in the Czech press from 1945 to 1952.

The Retrospective Article Bibliography 1945-1952 was assembled in the NLCR in the mid-1960s (excerpts began in 1963, followed by editorial work) and was intended to supplement the article bibliography *Articles in Czech Journals* published continuously since 1953. The classification of the All-Union Book Chamber (Vsesoyuznaya knizhnaya palata) used in the Bibliographic Catalogue of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic was used for the subject division.

This bibliography contains some 500 000 bibliographic records in more than 1230 boxes and has never been published in print. An extensive index was also supposed to be part of it, but it was not compiled or preserved. Similarly, there is no list of excerpted periodicals.

The Retrospective Article Bibliography 1945-1952 is a general selective bibliography. According to the contemporary concept, principles similar to those for the current Czech and Slovak national article bibliography were adopted as the main features for the selection, description, systematic classification, editorial processing, and planned publication. The bibliography aimed to make available article material from a period rich in rapid revolutionary development, sharp class struggles, construction successes, and mistakes and errors of the personality cult period. According to the concept, all scientific journals, all professional journals of national importance, all central and regional press, all scientific and professional collections containing more than three articles, and all important foreign language and foreign language mutated journals and collections published in the Czech lands were to be excerpted from Czech journals. Articles were selected according to their historical and political significance (documentary and typical materials for their time), according to the character of the titles of individual journals (scientific, professional, cultural and political, central dailies, regional and regional press, etc.), from the point of view of authors (all articles are selected from certain personalities in specific journals), from the point of view of genres and several other points of view.

The Retrospective Article Bibliography can be accessed in the Reference Centre. Except for Group XXVI Literary Science, the entire bibliography is stored outside the Reference Centre. For this reason, it is necessary to arrange with the Reference Centre staff to dispatch the required parts of the bibliography in person, by telephone at 221 663 239, or by e-mail.

Order bibliographical items from Groups I - XXV and XXVII - XXX at least one day in advance. The complete list of subject divisions in the Retrospective Article Bibliography in Czech (see below for download options) can be used to select a group.
