Tomáš Foltýn, Director General of the NLCRc, spoke at the 90th World Library and Information Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in Busan, South Korea.
As part of the "Preservation and Conservation" session held in one of the congress's largest halls, Tomáš Foltýn presented the extraordinary efforts undertaken by the library and the Czech Republic to safeguard Ukrainian cultural heritage. He spoke not only about "Ark I"—a mobile unit dedicated to the care of damaged library collections—but also mentioned the National Museum’s "Ark III" project, which focuses on digitizing three-dimensional objects from Ukrainian memory institutions. Furthermore, he emphasized to the attending delegates the need for collective support of Ukrainian educational and cultural institutions in their efforts, which are vital for preserving the nation's cultural identity. Interest was immense, as evidenced by a photograph showing Tomáš Foltýn literally surrounded by people eager for more information.
The NLCR was also represented at the 90th IFLA Congress by Michaela Mrázová, Director of the Librarianship Institute (NLCR). She presented a joint project between the University of Ostrava and the NLCR aimed at developing the digital skills of librarians.
